In 2015, I coordinated habitat restorations at Bayou Sauvage National Wildlife Refuge (above) and University of New Orleans' Coastal Education and Research Facility (CERF, below), funded through the US Fish and Wildlife Foundation's Urban Waters program. Bayou Sauvage was severely damaged by Hurricane Katrina, followed by an influx of invasive species such as Chinese Tallow. CERF lies along Chef Menteur Pass, on the site of a marsh-turned-landfill. Elementary students from various New Orleans schools learned about the Mississippi River Delta's ecosystems and came out to planted hundreds of native species specimen.
