"Paths to Land Use and Acquisition"

"Paths to Land Use and Acquisition" is an ongoing research and graphic advocacy project through the Freedom to Build research and discussion group.

New Orleans is being developed in ways that often displace + disenfranchise historic residents.  Access to + knowledge of the means to control space are lacking, so we began by compiling and analyzing the city + state's various programs and processes to access + own plots of land in a bilingual flowchart that is readable, without jargon.  Accompanying footnotes and an appendix connect specific paths to land use with appropriate resources around town.

Lincoln Beach: no longer maintained by the City of New Orleans, but still quite usable
Inspirations for this project include New Orleans Food and Farm Network's "Farm This Now", 596 Acres in New York City, and Center For Community Progress' work with the City of New Orleans Blightstat program.  As of November 2013, 596 Acres is working with New Orleans Food and Farm Network to develop "Living Lots NOLA", a web- and print-based resource to farm on abandoned lots.
